Discussion on the challenges and successes of how we implemented performance focused workflows and learning in the field using real time insights. We started a horizontal program in a field where it was all verticals before. I will share our lessons on how having the ability to analyze drilling insights quickly helped us to shorten the learning curve in an appraisal type program.

Using Real Time Analytics to experiment new approaches to drill wells and reduce costs in the Bakken
In today’s world of big databases and statistics, we are set up to compare wells based on pre-determined milestones. This works great if you are doing standard operations that comply with the milestones; not so much if you are trying new approaches. An example of this is our intermediate section is split up in our database from drillout to KOP (two bits), and KOP to landing point. When we trialed combining the lower vertical bit section and the curve section, our statistics became useless. We will share how Real Time Data Analytics at your fingertips can help not just try new approached but implement them as best practices across the entire fleet.

Presentation will demonstrate examples of how we have accelerated optimization of slimhole lateral BHAs by reducing engineering analysis time to a fraction of the previous Excel-based analysis time. This led to a significant collapse in daily workflow inefficiencies, allowing a focus on actual engineering decisions opposed to data preparation.

This helped us identify and increase our operational efficiencies further than we had previously assumed possible.
